Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbaal wurde am 9. November 1877 in Sialkot, heute Pakistan, geboren. Er starb am 21. April 1938 in Lahore, damals Britisch-Indien, heute Pakistan. Er war ein muslimischer Dichter, Philosoph und Politiker und gilt heute als Nationaldichter Pakistans. Seine Gedichte schrieb er in Urdu, Arabisch and Persisch. Seine Vorstellung von einem unabhängigen Staat für die Moslems in Britisch-Indien trug mit zur Gründung Pakistans bei.

He was a Muslim poet, philosopher and politician and is considered to be Pakistan’s national poet. His poetry is written in Urdu, Arabic and Persian. Saare Jahan Se Achchhaa“ ist eins seiner langlebigen patriotischen Gedichte in Urdu. Ursprünglich geschrieben für Kinder im Stil eines Ghazals, wurde das Gedicht in der Wochenzeitschrift „Ittehad“ am 16. August 1904 veröffentlicht. Nachdem Iqbal es im folgenden Jahr am Government College in Lahore vorgetragen hatte, wurde es schnell zu einer Hymne der Opposition gegen die britische Herrschaft in Indien.

 

Saare Jahan Se Achchhaa  is one of his enduring patriotic poems of the Urdu language. Written originally for children in the ghazal style of Urdu poetry, it was published in the weekly journal Ittehad” on August 16, 1904. Recited by Iqbal the following year at Government College in Lahore, it quickly became an anthem of opposition to the British rule in India.
